Please join me to discuss, brainstorm, assist, debate, etc. methods in which we must Rewire our teaching methodologies whilst being actively aware of the socio-economics of our students.
Please read an excerpt from my Masters Thesis:
As instructors we must continue to learn, to remain current, and to discover new teaching methodologies that engage the student of today. In many cases instructors try to utilize their current technologies into their curriculum. The leading programs are utilized to teach our students, but in many cases our technology is no longer relevant and do not the students of today. We must rewire our methodologies and infusion Web2.0 instructional technologies for the generation who live in an “i” world so they are prepared for their future. According to Dr. Rosen, author of Rewired: Understanding the iGeneration and the Way They Learn students of today “spend their days immersed in a ‘media diet’” (Rosen, 2010, p. 2). Additionally author of e-Learning2.0: How Web Technologies are Shaping Education the e-learning “has the potential to become far more personal, social, and flexible” (O’Hear, 2006).
Moreover, we are apart of a society that is ever multi-tasking or looking for new ways to increase our learning. I agree with Dr. Rosen: “[t]hey want to learn, but our current teaching models simply bore them to sleep. Education should excite and stimulate them and it will, if we make radical changes in our conceptualization of teaching and learning. This is a generation that learns differently, and unless we recognize and accept those differences, we will turn them off to education.
